  • Boston Bar Association 16 Beacon Street Boston, MA, 02108 United States (map)

From the BBA:

1:00PM to 1:30PM | Check-In

1:30PM to 2:15PM | Keynote Address and Q&A

Differentiating Your Practice in a Crowded Marketplace

The demand for legal services has declined significantly over the past few years, necessitating a keener focus on business development at all levels. This begins with branding. Without a clear message about who you are and how you are unique, it is difficult to communicate a competitive value proposition to your future clients. During this interactive keynote, David Ackert will present practical, actionable techniques for establishing credibility, distinguishing yourself from the competition, crafting an effective “elevator pitch,” and communicating your digital brand via LinkedIn.

2:30PM to 4:30PM | Break-Out Groups

Attendees will be divided into small break-out groups led by business development experts to write a plan. Facilitators will discuss key components of business development including:

  • Branding
  • Networking
  • Thought Leadership
  • Internal Positioning Within Your Firm
  • Mining Your Contacts

The end result is a written plan tailored to the associates’ interests, skills, practice, and contacts; along with a deeper understanding of how to leverage the plan to benefit their personal career goals, their firm’s bottom line, and their clients’ interests.

4:45PM to 6:00PM | Panel and Q&A

Hear from a panel of recently elected partners from various firm sizes, practice areas, and backgrounds as they discuss how they successfully implemented their business plans and offer candid, practical advice and anecdotes. This panel will conclude with a Q&A session allowing attendees to ask panelists questions.
